The project aims to enhance the capacity of local governments and schools of Darchula district to independently procure and provide diversified and nutritious meals through the government’s cash-based school meals programme. By focusing on sustainable practices, the project seeks to build the competencies of local governments and schools in effectively utilizing funds to source locally produced nutritious foods. It supports local governments in integrating school meal programs into their annual plans, policies, and guidelines to ensure the efficient operation of these initiatives. The project also aims to empower local cooperatives and farmers’ groups to view school meals as a viable market opportunity, facilitating regular production and sales through forward contracts. By diversifying school menus with fresh vegetables and fruits, the project seeks to improve the nutritional quality of meals provided through the Food for Education Programme (FFEP).
