The School Construction Project under Purnima: Post-Earthquake Recovery Project in Nepal, with support from UKAID/FCDO and technical guidance from GEOCE, successfully rebuilt and enhanced five schools across Gorkha, Dhading, and Nuwakot districts between January 2020 and February 2022. The intervention included the construction of 10 new blocks comprising 37 classrooms, five gender-friendly toilets, handwashing stations, water supply schemes, retaining walls, and playgrounds. A total of 637 students and 34 teachers directly benefited from improved learning environments and upgraded school infrastructure, including the provision of furniture and children’s play equipment.

Beyond physical reconstruction, the project prioritized capacity building by training school management committees (SMCs), teachers, students, and community members on School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), School Improvement Plans (SIP), operation and maintenance, and safe construction practices. This comprehensive approach ensured not only safe, inclusive, and resilient learning spaces but also empowered communities to sustain and manage school facilities effectively in the long term.
