Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI)

SAPPROS Nepal is committed to integrating gender equality into its all projects and programs, and work with local governments and other stakeholders. It has been recognized that women’s empowerment is a key driver of sustainable economic growth, development and stability. It has developed and implemented a GESI policy for systematic institutionalization of GESI responses in the organizational systems, to ensure equitable representation, participation and leadership of women, men and gender and sexual minority in the development process and decision-making levels. The concern of gender and social inclusion in every activity and program will be brought into the mainstream and the principle of equity will be adopted in the process.

Safeguarding

SAPPROS Nepal is committed towards conducting its programs and operations in a manner that everyone has an equal right to protection from abuse and exploitation. So, it has developed and implemented vulnerable adult and child safeguarding policy to protect the rights and interests of children and vulnerable adults for their physical, mental and intellectual development. It reaffirms and strengthens the organization’s commitment as an organization towards keeping children and vulnerable adult safe and protecting them from all forms of harm and abuse.

Sustainability

SAPPROS Nepal as an organization works relentlessly to improve institutional capacity to continue its activities among the target populations over an extended period. The focus remains in maximizing the outcome, impact and minimizing the financial vulnerability. The Organization and its initiatives are in line to achieve sustainability in all its four pillars, namely human, social, economic, and environmental dimensions.

To date, SAPPROS Nepal has conducted social mobilization training workshops for POS and line agency staff in Bajhang district for the PAF Program, finalized manuals, provided technical assistance for implementing the Basa Project, offered post-implementation technical assistance to livestock shed beneficiaries for their livelihoods, and supported Market Access for Smallholders (MASH), grassroots-level institution development, and Self-Help Organizations (SHOs) support.

SAPPROS Nepal has a longstanding history of promoting various livelihoods activities. Key activities include the Ratmate LRP project implementation, Leveraging Women’s Leadership and Empowerment in Value Chain for Resilient Livelihoods (Women in Value Chain – WiVC), JP – Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme (RWEE), SAMUNNATI – Prosperity through Inclusive Livelihood, and PAF – Poverty Alleviation Fund. Additionally, they have been involved in MCHN, providing livelihoods support to earthquake-affected populations in Sindhupalchok and Nuwakot districts, the Initiative for Agricultural Productivity and Commercialization (IAPAC), Economic and Social Inclusion of the Disadvantaged Poor through Livelihoods Enhancement with Micro Irrigation (LEMI) project, and the ASHA Program funded by Montview Church Foundation.

SAPPROS Nepal is a pioneer organization in the infrastructure and WASH sectors. To date, it has successfully completed various projects including Building Hope along the Karnali River Basin (BHAKARI), Using Renewable Energy to Kick-start Agriculture in Achham (UREKA Achham), School Construction Project – Purnima, Anukulan – X Project under Building Resilience & Adaptation to Climate Extremes & Disaster (BRACED), Promoting Agriculture, Health & Alternative Livelihoods (PAHAL), Solar MUS for Sustainable Livelihoods (Solar MUS – II), Market Access & Water Technology for Women (MAWTW), Promotion of Community-managed Rural Energy Systems Development for Enhanced Rural Livelihoods, and The Nepal Smallholders Irrigation Market Initiative Project (SIMI).

By now, SAPPROS Nepal has successfully implemented ongoing projects including the Home-Grown School Meal (HGSM) project and the Mother and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) project. We have also completed projects such as Food and Nutrition Security and Building Resilient Livelihoods in Earthquake-affected Areas (Cash for Work), Social Safety Net Project (improving food security, livelihoods, and nutrition), Logistic Handling of Micro Nutrient Powder (MNP), and Hand Washing and Point of Use Water Treatment Promotion Initiative (HAPPI).

In the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRR/M), Resilience, and Climate Justice, SAPPROS Nepal has undertaken various projects. These include the Tree in a Cup/Agroforestry project, Resilient Communities Through Vulnerable Earthquake Recovery (RECoVER) project, Cash-based Transfer/Cash Transfers to support improved education and nutrition outcomes among children, COVID-19 Livelihoods and Economic Recovery Project (LERP), and Purnima: UK support to post-earthquake recovery in Nepal program (DFID)/Challenge Fund to ‘Leave No One Behind’ (CF-LNOB)/Sambodhan-Purnima. Furthermore, SAPPROS Nepal responded to the 2019 floods in Madhesh province with such initiatives as RCIW-PRRO, Emergency Operation: Early Recovery Project, Drought Response, EMOP, QIP, and PLIC.
