Our history

Who we are

Established on 12 September 1991, under the Organization Registration Act of 2034 BS, SAPPROS Nepal (Support Activities for Poor Producers of Nepal) is a leading national non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering economic inclusion and empowerment among rural communities. Registered with the District Administration Office (Reg. no.: 088/048/049) in Kathmandu and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (Reg. no.: 458), SAPPROS Nepal has consistently worked toward sustainable development and socioeconomic empowerment in Nepal.

Over the past 34 years, the organization has implemented more than 150 major development projects across 55 districts, benefiting over 600,000 households. Our efforts focus on supporting marginalized and vulnerable communities, with a particular emphasis on gender empowerment and women’s development. We operate in geographically remote and under-served areas, championing agroecologically friendly practices and sustainable technologies.

SAPPROS Nepal’s key areas of expertise include infrastructure and WASH, food security, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, resilience, and climate justice. In 2010, the organization was awarded the prestigious Right Livelihood Award, also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize, for its impactful work in transforming rural Nepal. Under the ‘Make Nepal Green’ initiative, we have integrated organic agriculture, renewable energy, and ecotourism to promote sustainable development and healthier lifestyles across the nation.
